Community Safety Assessment (Mobility and Cognitive Issues)

A Community Safety Assessment addresses a clients ability to safely and effectively access their community and perform community based activity. This may include but is not limited to assessment of a clients ability to:

  • Use public transportation
  • Navigate their vehicle from points A to B
  • Manage money
  • Shop

This assessment involves the Therapist attending with the client while they are performing these activities and assessing their;

  • Physical ability to mobilize to/from bus stops, their vehicle, banks, stores etc.
  • Transfer into, onto the bus or their vehicle
  • Understand bus routes/schedule
  • Utilize a map or GPS system
  • Ability to identify risk factors for their personal safety
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of scenarios
  • Perform personal budgeting and money management
  • Identify means of obtaining groceries, medication and other day to day items

Educational Issues Assessment

The Educational Issues Assessment addresses the fit between the client and the physical and social environment of his/her school. In addition, a review of the clients school environment and or home study area will be conducted to address safety and ergonomic concerns.

Following the assessment, recommendations will be made to assist the client in reducing their symptom exacerbations while at school. Recommendations will also be made to minimize the impact of the ongoing injuries, impairments and sequelae and to ensure optimal comfort, safety, and productivity with respect to participation in educational pursuits.
