An Occupational Therapist will assess the client within their home environment to determine the most appropriate mobility device to meet the client's functional mobility needs. The Occupational Therapist will complete a full Physical and Functional Assessment with the client. The Physical Assessment will include a postural and gait analysis to identify presenting musculoskeletal and cardiovascular impairments contributing to the client's mobility limitations and to determine the most appropriate mobility device. An Environmental Assessment will also be completed to ensure the recommended walker is accessible within the client's home, work, school or other environments which the client accesses on a regular basis.
Following completion of the assessment, recommendations will be made for the most appropriate walker that will allow the client to work towards resuming their mobility in a safe and independent manner within the environments previously accessed prior to the accident. An application for funding with the Ministry of Health Assistive Devices Program (ADP) may be completed on behalf of the client if they are assessed to be eligible for funding.

An environmental assessment will also be completed to ensure the recommended manual wheelchair is accessible within the client's home, work, school or other environments in which the client accesses on a regular basis.
