The purpose of this assessment is to thoroughly review the client's accident related injuries, impairments and sequelae for the purpose of determining and designing a client-specific fitness program to meet the rehabilitation needs of the individual. The fitness assessment is utilized as a means to develop a client specific and exercised based activity conditioning or work conditioning program.
These will include one-on-one personal training services that are completed by an Occupational Therapist Assistant/ Certified Personal Trainer.
An exercise program is designed based on the outcomes of the fitness assessment that will allow the client to gradually progress with respect to physical tolerances and endurance as well as to independence in use of the home exercise equipment or gym facility equipment. Exercise programming is an essential basis for activity and work conditioning.
This assessment looks at a client's needs related to environmental safety and accessibility, services (attendant care etc.) and personal safety/comfort and mobility (inclusive of short term equipment needs) post surgical intervention.
Recommendations will focus on ensuring personal safety after surgery and maximizing function in pre-accident roles. Coordination of care provider services may also occur if necessary.
Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapist Assistant will implement an individually designed activity conditioning program that will assist the client in resuming pre-accident roles and tolerance levels with respect to the performance of homemaking/housekeeping/home maintenance tasks.
This is often utilized as a precursor to work conditioning and hardening and in conjunction with an in home or gym exercise program or pool therapy.
This is a one-on-one exercise program completed in a pool setting (shallow and deep end, warm and regular temperature). This is conducted by our Occupational Therapist Assistants who are also certified in aqua therapy provision. Treatment occurs within a pool close to the client's area of residence.
This is typically utilized as a means of increasing strengths, range of motion, endurance, for pain management and to increase general activity tolerances.
These programs are individually designed based on client's injuries, sequelae and level of physical/cognitive and behavioral tolerances.
This is completed one-on-one with a client by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and under the direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
Goals and activities will be client specific and designed to address the individual's areas of concern. They will promote reintegration of pre-accident roles and activities into the client's daily routines utilizing identified cognitive compensatory strategies as a basis.
Work trial coordination includes the identification, set up and monitoring of a community based work trial under the direction of the client's Occupational Therapist or other health care provider.
This will include weekly communication with the client (via telephone and on site visits), the employer and the treatment team.
Interim and final reports will be provided based on progress towards the purpose of the work trial. Work trial coordination will also include set up of necessary workplace insurance.
This is a one-on-one service conducted by the Vocational Specialist.
This service will include instruction on;
For those clients who require additional assistance actual labor market research, initial employer contact and attendance at a job interview can also be provided.
Further this service may include set up of volunteer work placements.
This is a detailed assessment of the availability of a particular type of job in a specified geographical area. To determine availability, salary ranges etc.
This will include a review of specific job search engines/papers that can be utilized to obtain work in that field/area.
Further employers who are known to have positions of that type will be contacted to obtain specific information/input.
